Inspired by lineage, Salinas local continues to make a difference in Monterey County
Wednesday, April 28, 2021 - Partners Paul Rovella, Aaron Johnson and Jason Retterer announced Tuesday that attorney Peter Brazil has been named as a Partner in the law firm Johnson, Rovella, Retterer, Rosenthal & Gilles, LLP. Specializing in business, cannabis and hemp law, Peter also is called upon for his extensive experience in real property law, landlord-tenant, land use, corporation law, contract law, wills, trusts and probate. Peter is a fourth generation Salinas native who continued to call Salinas home after receiving his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a Legal Environment of Business option from California State University at Fresno and his Juris Doctor degree from Monterey College of Law. When asked why JRG, Brazil shares, “I believe strongly in the values JRG holds, the Team that has been built and the mission everyone works towards, exceeding expectations. I am honored to become a Partner and look forward to serving Monterey County and beyond.”
Throughout the shelter in place restrictions JRG offices have been operating in various ways with the majority of their staff working from home. Managing Partner Paul Rovella explains, “while we are flexing where we work day to day, our service to clients and the community remains the same, if not stronger, 2021 was a perfect time to have Peter join us as a Partner, he is a leader in the office and in the community.”
Much of Brazil’s practice includes working on behalf of local businesses, with a focus over the past five years on California and Monterey County’s burgeoning cannabis industry, which he continues to remain optimistic regarding its growth, success and positive impact on the county.
Brazil comes from a family of attorneys, including both grandfathers and his godfather, who, along with his father, who was the Chief Investigator for the Monterey County Public Defenders’ office, provided him with exposure to the law from a very early age. He recalls early memories of his Grandfather, Anthony Brazil, former Monterey County DA and a Superior Court Judge, and visits to his offices in the Monterey County courthouse, which would leave him with a feeling of wonder from the grandiosity of the building and court room to the respect that his grandfather garnered from everyone around him.
With his passion for the law being derived from his great pleasure and satisfaction in helping others, being an attorney merely expands and amplified his ability to help. Currently Brazil serves as the President of the Monterey County Bar Association, for which he has been a board member of since 2018, and is involved in various organizations throughout Monterey and San Benito Counties.
Brazil will continue to work out of JRG’s Salinas location.
