Looking to refresh and renew those health and wellness New Year’s resolutions? The Pilgrim’s Way Community Bookstore & Secret Garden in Carmel has added new events in March and April to form its weekly interactive Wellness Series.
The locally-owned business will provide small-group sessions that offer the opportunity to meet local professionals in the healing arts. The series takes place in the bookstore’s comfortable and private setting on Thursdays from 6–7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person, and attendees may join as many events as they like. Space is limited to 6–10 people per event. RSVP at cynthiapilgrimsway@gmail.com.
Now the last bookstore in Carmel, The Pilgrim’s Way has been a cornerstone of the community since 1969, upholding the village’s tradition of hosting artists, writers, poets, and free-thinkers. Its popular Wellness Series supports the bookstore’s embrace of the sacred, rather than the religious or secular, and encourages the possibility of magical connections.
Following is a summary of the upcoming sessions:
March 30 — Core Breathwork with Domini Anne. Breathe life into your body with Domini Anne, a master trainer and movement expert for 25 years. This session reveals a range of tools that allow practitioners to master the power of breathing and improve their well-being using their own bodies. An informational lecture will be followed by the demonstration of powerful exercises to help transform body understanding. Using core breathwork, attendees will experience increased mental clarity, improved posture, an easing of physical stress and fatigue, and improved sleep patterns.
April 6 — Shamanism: Drumming Journey with Dr. Monica Montoya. This experiential event begins with an orientation on the powerful healing influence of Shamanism on physical, mental, and soul levels, impacting our quality of life. Dr. Montoya will then lead participants through a drumming journey, followed by a discussion at the group level of the experience. Dr. Montoya is a naturopathic doctor with more than 15 years of practice in Monterey. She also has a background as a clinical microbiologist, and research scientist in genetics, and she has more than 10 years of experience in shamanic medicine.
April 13 — Jedi Spine Tricks with Domini Anne. Activate your movement potential with this combination of movement class and anatomical lecture. Learn how your nervous system can define the way you interact with the world when Domini Anne demonstrates important tools you can use to help improve your current fitness routine or begin a new practice.
April 20 — Gifts of the 5 Elements with Kristan Roth. We will explore the wood element and the quality of energy this time of year. We'll learn ways to harness this energy, increasing wellness within and around us, as we experience the promise of new beginnings and expansion. Dr. Roth’s path as a healer began more than 30 years ago when she started studying Herbal Medicine of many traditions. She has been practicing Acupuncture and Natural Medicine for more than 25 years and is inspired by nature’s rhythms and teachings.
April 27 — Uncovering Wholeness with the Internal Family Systems Model with Yossi Beeri. An introductory evening of dialogue and guided explorations, this event is designed for individuals who wish to explore aspects of their experiences that feel challenging, using the approach of Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatics, self-inquiry, and mindfulness. The event is especially useful to those seeking to understand and heal longstanding patterns of inner conflict, reactivity, distress, pain, and suffering.
