The journey of Los Lobos began in 1973 when David Hidalgo, Louie Perez, Cesar Rosas, and Conrad Lozano started playing Mexican folk music. In the 1980s, they embraced LA's punk and college rock scenes and gained critical success. Their album "How Will the Wolf Survive?" helped them gain recognition and win awards. The release of the Ritchie Valens biopic "La Bamba" brought them commercial success with their cover of Valens' song. Instead of capitalizing on it, they recorded "La Pistola y El Corazón," a tribute to Tejano and Mariachi music. Los Lobos became known for their artistic turns and defying expectations.
Their album "Kiko" is considered one of their best. They continued to release diverse albums and deliver impressive live shows. Los Lobos' music represents the cultural melting pot of America, combining various styles like son jarocho, norteño, Tejano, folk, country, doo-wop, soul, R&B, rock 'n' roll, and punk. They have won Grammys and made a lasting impact with their music. In 2023, they celebrate their 50th anniversary as a band, maintaining their incredible legacy.
