Center for Photographic Art presents Deadbeat Club: The Californians Exhibition Opening & Book Signing: January 10th 4 pm - 6 pm
Artist Talk: January 10th 3pm - 4 pm
The Californians, an exhibition showcasing the work of three acclaimed photographers: Ian C. Bates, Tracy L. Chandler, and Janet Delaney, in collaboration with Los Angeles–based publisher Deadbeat Club. The show draws from each artist’s recently published photo book to explore California as a landscape, a memory, and a mythic ideal.
The exhibition offers a deeply layered portrait of the Golden State as seen through varied lenses: from rural fringes to urban interiors, from personal histories to collective identities. The presentation of each artist’s book alongside gallery prints emphasizes the photo book as a vital art object, sharing the power of sequenced stories and images.
As part of the opening day events, the public is invited to attend a talk presented by the three artists and the publishers at 3:00 pm in Carpenter Hall, followed by the opening reception and book-signing in the CPA gallery beginning at 4:00 pm. All three featured photo books will be available for purchase, making this a special opportunity for photography enthusiasts, collectors, and California dreamers alike.
