Monica Johnson is a contemporary abstract painter based in Carmel, California. Her acrylic and mixed media artworks are infused with deep intention, drawing inspiration from her profound connection to the stunning landscapes of the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur Wilderness. Monica’s pieces feature a harmonious blend of earthy colors, rich textures, and organic compositions that explore the complexities beneath the surface of simplicity.
Originally born in Monterey, Monica spent her childhood in Kansas before returning to her hometown in her twenties. There, she built successful careers in dental hygiene and massage therapy. With her background in the healing arts and a natural affinity for beauty and creativity, Monica is uniquely equipped to explore the intersection of science and art. In 2018, she began her journey into abstract expressionism and quickly discovered her passion for painting. Committed to refining her skills, she studied under several accomplished artists and developed her own style, incorporating inspirational and empowering words into her canvases.
Today, Monica paints for the thrill of exploration and discovery, and to enhance the lives of others. She views art as the most life-affirming pursuit she can undertake. Monica’s artwork has been showcased in both local and national exhibitions, garnering a growing following among collectors across the United States and Canada. Her art studio is located in Carmel, California, and she is represented by Gallery Sur in Carmel, CA, and Karen Anderer Fine Art in Lancaster, PA.
