Terry Winograd is Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at Stanford University, where he founded the Human-Computer Interaction Group. A pioneer in artificial intelligence and natural language understanding, he completed his PhD at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab and co-authored the influential book Understanding Computers and Cognition. He is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)—the world’s largest and most prestigious professional organization for computing professionals—and the Stanford Human-Centered AI Institute. Winograd has also served as National President of Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility and consulted for many companies, including Google.
