The metaphor is striking. Inspired, professional women — two from the East Coast and two from the West Coast — operate a boutique named Ami (French for friend), vowing to remove all boundaries for women.
Beginning in January, four fast friends reimagined the downtown Carmel business, providing exceptional products, exemplary service and a “community” of like-minded souls intent on empowering women from all walks of life.
April promises to be a celebration of those ideals, with expanded business hours, the launch of Ami Carmel’s exclusive clothing line Angelrox and a special How to Wear it Well event on Wednesday, April 28.
On that day, the ladies of Ami will wear Angelrox designs, inviting customers and friends to mingle and discover all of the ways the collection can be worn. Videos will play in the store while the owners reveal designer Roxi Suger’s passion for creating comfortable and sustainable clothing.
Ami will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and will take special orders to be shipped to the store for pick-up or directly to the customer’s home address.
Embracing a business strategy around the values of what they call The Four Ps, the partners always keep in mind Product, People, Place and Purpose.
Suger’s clothing line fits well within that philosophy. Angelrox fashion is renowned for its comfort, quality, sustainability and versatility through the change of seasons.
Suger is celebrated for her timeless versatile designs through which customers derive not only incredible comfort but an inner shine and glow that is palpable. Crafted sustainably from plant-based fabrics and handmade in a historic mill in Maine, her collections are flattering to women of all ages, stages, shapes and sizes.
What’s most important to Ami partners Annee Martin, AnneMarie DeFreest, Hayley Jane Soggin and Annie Darling is Suger’s ability to engineer a simple bit of cloth and infuse it into something that can transform the way a woman feels about herself.
Sugar’s clothing falls in line with Ami’s intent to provide gifts from the heart — from women in business doing business together. Ami embraces the idea that “friendship, comfort, joy, gratitude and generosity bring meaning to our lives, and help us maintain our connection to the world.”
Ami is located on Dolores Street between 5th and 6th avenues in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Phone: 831-620-1600. Website: www.amicarmel.com.
