SUMMARY:Opening Reception for "New West Perspectives" at Gallery MAR Carmel
DESCRIPTION:Gallery MAR Carmel is pleased to announce the opening of a new group show for three painters\, each embedded in the great traditions of American Western artwork. However from that shared heritage they quickly diverge onto singular\, contemporary pathways.\n\n \nPlease Join Us for the Opening Reception\n\nFriday September 23\, 5pm to 7pm\n\nMeet Annie Hooker - Enjoy Hors D'oeuvres -\n\nSample Adult Beverages - Listen to Live Music\n\nFree and Open to the Public\n\n \n Annie Hooker loves taking bison\, cowboys and horses and giving them a color makeover\, then pumping up that color by about 225%. She writes\, "I was born and raised in San Francisco\, but I became enchanted with the vast expanse of the West's visual landscape\, rich American history and dramatic wildlife." \n\n \n\nJeffery Pugh paints the Western landscape but never picks up a paint brush to do so\, his paintings are created entirely through the use of his palette knife. The resulting lines and textures set his work apart and mesh perfectly with his concept of western vistas. "It isn't just dirt and trees and sky\," he writes\, "it is a compound of colors and shapes and values."\n\n \n\nMatt Sievers works to create emotion through his use of vibrant color and dramatic light. He wants his landscapes to look at once familiar but also unplaceable\; as if it is somewhere you have visited\, though perhaps only in your dreams. Matt says his father inspired him to create a style that is truly unique.
