SUMMARY:Center for Photographic Art Presents: Many Small Decisions\, Photographs by Todd Hido
DESCRIPTION:Carmel\, CA The Center for Photographic Art (CPA) located in the historic Sunset Center\, is pleased to announce Many Small Decisions\, a retrospective photography exhibition by legendary photographer\, Todd Hido.\n\n \n\nIn celebration of the 25th anniversary of the publication of his book House Hunting (Nazraeli Press\, 2001)\, we're thrilled to present a solo exhibition of Todd Hido's work that will not only include his renowned photographs of homes at night\, but will also include recent collages and other works. We're honored that the renowned artist will be here in person to discuss his career and sign copies of a special anniversary edition of House Hunting as well as his other books.\n\nTodd Hido (born in Kent\, Ohio\, 1968) wanders endlessly in search of imagery that connects with his own memories. To quote the artist: \n\nPeople ask me how I find my pictures. I tell them I drive around. I drive and drive and I mostly don't find anything that is interesting to me. But then\, something calls out. Something that looks sort of off or maybe an empty space. Sometimes it's a sad scene. I like that kind of stuff. So I take the photos and some are good. And so I keep driving and looking and taking pictures.\n\nHis photographs are in over 50 museum collections around the world\, including the Getty\, the Whitney\, and the SFMOMA\, and Les Rencontres d'Arles featured his work in solo exhibitions in 2019 and 2025. Hido has published more than a dozen monographs\, including House Hunting\, Roaming\, Bright Black World\, and Excerpts from Silver Meadows. His cinematic approach to landscape photography evolved further through his two most recent monographs: Bright Black World and The End Sends Advance Warning. (Hido is also an avid photobook collector\, and over three decades has created a notable collection of over 9\,000 titles!)\n\nHis work has influenced multiple Hollywood productions\, including Spike Jones's Her\, Sam Levinson's Euphoria\, Issa L pez's True Detective: Night Country\, and Jason Momoa's directorial debut Chief of War. He also appears as a subject in On The Roam\, Momoa's HBO Max documentary on creative makers.\n\nWe are thrilled to bring Todd Hido and his work to the Center for Photographic Art. Don't miss the chance to meet this acclaimed photographer in person at the opening reception on August 1!
