Jews Christians Muslims United to open Abraham’s Tent an Interfaith Soup Kitchen

Congregation Beth Israel, in Carmel, in partnership with Jews Christians Muslims United (JCM United) is honored to announce the opening of Abraham’s Tent, a 503.c3 non-profit, interfaith soup kitchen. Abraham’s Tent is aptly named after Abraham, who welcomed weary strangers wandering in the desert to a nourishing meal.

JCM United will offer meals to the unsheltered population each Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church, in Seaside. Their goal is to serve 100 members from the community who otherwise might not enjoy a healthy meal.

Rabbi Bruce Greenbaum, president of JCM United, shares their mission: To build and strengthen the understanding and ties between religious communities through social justice programs; including feeding the homeless, and social and educational activities.

Chef Agha Bilal will donate his time to supervise the food preparation every week. Abraham’s Tent will be housed at Bethel Baptist Church, 390 Elm Street, Seaside. The meals will be prepared and served by 15 volunteers from Congregation Beth Israel, the Islamic Society of the Monterey County and the Christian community. Volunteers are asked to commit a minimum of 3 hours on Thursdays between 3:00-6:00 PM. Thursday, November 21, 4:30 PM: Abraham’s Tent will be open for its first meal. The soup kitchen will be closed November 28 and re-open December 5 and each Thursday thereafter.
The weekly 4:30 PM meal is free and open to the unsheltered community and those in need.
