This May, I Cantori, Carmel’s own symphonic chorus and orchestra takes the stage at the Sunset Center for the very first time in its 40-plus year history. I Cantori di Carmel, a locally grown ensemble with deep roots in the region’s cultural life, invites the community to be part of this landmark event.
Led by Music Director Daniel Henriks, the chorus has grown into a dynamic, high-level ensemble performing alongside its own full orchestra of local and regional musicians.
The program, Songs of Destiny, features music by Brahms, Debussy, Ravel, and Vaughan Williams. These Romantic and Impressionist masterworks explore themes of fate, memory, and renewal, with texts by celebrated poets like Hölderlin, Schiller, and Walt Whitman. Each piece offers a different way to reflect on life’s turning points, all through the powerful blend of orchestra and chorus.
Whether you’re a lifelong listener or just curious to try something new, this concert offers a chance to step out of the week, turn off your phone, and experience something meaningful, moving, and deeply local. This is more than a concert. It is a celebration of local talent, artistic ambition, and Carmel’s identity as a town that treasures music, art and literature.
