About the Film
Abraham Solomon-Odeh—”Avram” to his Israeli-Jewish maternal family, “Ibrahim” to his Palestinian-Muslim paternal family, and “Abraham” to his Brooklyn parents—prefers to be called, well, Abe. A 12-year old with a passion for cooking (and a food blog Abe Cooks), Abe is tired of mediating between the sides of his politically-at-odds family. When Abe meets Chico, an Afro-Brazilian chef from Bahia, whose “Mix It Up” kitchen features a fusion of South American, Jamaican, and New York flavors, things get cooking. Searching for a catalyst that could bring his family together, Abe wonders if the flavors and foods of his grandparents’ homeland might do the trick.
A Talk-Back with Rabbi Bruce Greenbaum of Congregation Beth Israel and Abdel Seck, Islamic Society of Monterey will follow the film
